MACON PICKLEBALL: A GROWING COMMUNITY

May, 2022

This is a story I just ran on the Macon Pickleball Association, and how the sport is growing in Georgia. The Macon Pickleball Association in Tattnall Square Park supports the larger middle Georgia community, and its president, Paul Midkiff, is retiring to run tournaments and events all over the state for the Georgia Pickleball Association.

Payton Johns, left, and John Frazier, right, set their feet before Greg Stokes, not pictured, starts the match on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in Macon, Ga. Johns, when asked why she keeps coming back to play replied, "I don't know really, I just went one week adn just kept going." Johns is one of the younger players in the community, with the sport only now beginning to become popular for college aged and young adults and high schoolers. The sport of pickleball is rapidly spreading across the state of Georgia, and is growing in popularity among fans, amateur and professional athletes, and sports companies. The Georgia Pickleball association has begun utilizing the USA Pickleball ambassadors to strengthen their program, including The Macon Pickleball Association President Paul Midkiff.
